Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Maine Rallies To Win Fifth Straight, Defeat UAlbany, 2-1

Poppy Lambert scores twice in the fourth

ORONO - The University of Maine field hockey team came through with a come-from-behind victory on Friday afternoon, defeating the UAlbany Great Danes by a 2-1 final behind two fourth-quarter Poppy Lambert goals.

Maine lost the lead on the first corner attempt of the day for the Danes at the 3:21 mark, and the score held for 50 more minutes deep into the fourth quarter.

The Bears finally broke through with eight minutes remaining, as Poppy Lambert converted on the corner attempt off a Madisyn Hartley stick-stop to tie the game at 1-1.

A mere five minutes later, a carbon copy unfolded as Maine once again earned the corner and the Brittany Smith to Madisyn Hartley to Poppy Lambert connection worked again to give Maine a 2-1 lead.

It came down the wire, as UAlbany earned a penalty corner with just two seconds remaining, but Mia Borley came through with her third and most critical save of the afternoon to seal the 2-1 victory.

Maine stretches their win streak to five games and improves their conference record to 3-0 with the win. The Black Bears have won three straight contests with the Great Danes. Maine and California are the lone remaining unbeaten schools in America East play.

The Black Bears dip out of conference play for their next date. They'll head down to Massachusetts to take on Boston University on Sunday at 4:00 on ESPN+.
