Women's Hockey Falls in Sunday Afternoon Game at #3/#4 Northeastern

Boston, Mass. - The University of Maine women's ice hockey team was defeated by the #3/#4 Northeastern University Huskies, 3-0, on Sunday afternoon in the Matthews Arena.

First Goal (1-0 #4 Northeastern): Skylar Fontaine broke-up the nothing/nothing tie early in the second period with a goal. 00:28 into the middle frame, the forward tallied an unassisted lamp lighter for the Huskies.

Second Goal (2-0 #4 Northeastern): Brooke Hobson found the back of the net halfway through the third period. After an expiring penalty, Hobson lifted the puck over Porter's shoulder and into the goal. The Huskies held a two goal lead late in the third period.

Third Goal (3-0 #4 Northeastern): Shortly after Hobson scored her goal, Ani Fitzgerald followed suit. The three goal lead would be too much for the Black Bears to overcome.

Notes: Loryn Porter finished with 44 saves, while Aerin Frankel tallied 16 for Northeastern.

Maine went 0-0 on the power play, as the Huskies were 0-4 on their player advantages.

The Black Bears blocked nine shots as a team.

Next: Maine returns to the ice next tomorrow, Monday, January 4th, for the series finale against Northeastern.
