Porter's Shutout Lifts Maine Over Boston

BOSTON - The University of Maine women's hockey team earned a weekend split against Boston University on Sunday afternoon, skating to a 2-0 victory behind Loryn Porter's first shutout of the season.

  • The senior netminder continued her stellar play, recording 37 saves to earn her first shutout of the season. She made 11 saves in the third period alone, and backstopped a defense that killed off all five penalties on the afternoon.
  • It's Maine's first shutout since Carly Jackson's 21-save performance against Holy Cross on January 11th of last year.
  • Maine's offense was provided by two first-time goal scorers in the form of freshmen skaters Kennedy Little and Rahel Enzler, who both scored within 90 seconds of each other in the waning moments of the second period.
  • Adding to the impressiveness of Loryn Porter's was the disparity in shots. Boston outshot Maine 72-29 overall and 37-21 on goal.

With the split, Maine moves to 5-6 this year overall and within the Hockey East. They'll await the schedule release from the conference for the upcoming week, with details to be announced on GoBlackBears.com, the Maine Women's Hockey social channels, and the Maine Athletics app.
