About the Black Bears

• The Black Bears earned their first regulation win of the 2020-21 season last weekend. After dropping Friday night's game at Vermont, Maine grabbed the win Saturday night. Victor Ostman was the winning goaltender against the Catamounts.

• The University of Maine men's ice hockey team dropped its first series of 2021. UMass Lowell won both games on the weekend. The Black Bears scored four power play and one short handed goal but still dropped both of the Hockey East contests at Lowell.

• The Black Bears opened the 2020-21 season at the University of New Hampshire. Lynden Breen's goal sent the Hockey East contest to overtime, where the Black Bears won the game in a shoot-out (3-2). The Wildcats took Saturday night's contest, 6-2.

• The University of Maine men's ice hockey team enters the season with 10 new faces on the roster after seeing seven players graduate, transfer, or leave to pursue professional hockey.

• Nine incoming freshmen and one transfer senior make up players who were added by the coaching staff. Three of the incoming student athletes are from the United States, one hails from Sweden, while the other six are from Canada.

• The nine-member Class of 2024 includes Kabore Dunn, Tristan Poissant, Donavan Villeneuve-Houle, Zachary Aughe, Lynden Breen, Brad Morrissey, John Mulera, Victor Ostman, and Connor Androlewicz.

• The UMaine roster includes two NHL draft picks, with JD Greenway being selected by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2016 and Matthew Thiessen being taken by the Vancouver Canucks in the 2018 NHL draft.

About the Friars

• Providence finished with a record of 16-13-6 last year, ultimately having their Hockey East Tournament series canceled.

• The Friars return four of their top five scorers from 2019-20 in Tyce Thompson, Michael, Callahan, Greg Printz, and Parker Ford.

• Gabe Mollot-Hill, playing in two games last year, posted a 1.63 GAA and a .875 save percentage.

The Series with Providence

• Maine and Providence have squared off 129 times prior to Friday's tilt, with Maine holding an edge of 66-56-7 in the all-time series.

• The squads first squared off on Jan. 5, 1980, with Providence topping Maine, 4-3, at Alfond Arena.

• Maine had a 13-game unbeaten streak in the series (12-0-1) from Feb. 9, 1991 to Feb. 3, 1995.

• Maine's Associate Head Coach Ben Guite had two career game-winning goals against the Friars while assistant coach Alfie Michaud had four wins between the pipes.
