Dobson, Stevens highlight list with First Team honors

ORONO, Maine -- Five Black Bears have been selected to Phil Steele's 2020 Preseason All-CAA Teams, as announced by the organization on July 24.

Offensive lineman Liam Dobson and linebacker Deshawn Stevens highlighted the five Black Bear selections with each senior earning a spot on the First Team. Wide receiver Andre Miller was selected to the Second Team while lone snapper Bryce Colee and linebacker Adrian Otero earned spots on the Third Team.

Dobson, a 2020 HERO Sports Preseason All-American and 2019 STATS FCS Third Team All-American, has logged 26 consecutive starts on the offensive line for the Black Bears. Dobson, a 2019 All-CAA First Team honoree, was Maine's highest graded offensive lineman for all 12 games in 2019. As a junior, Dobson averaged an eye-opening 12 knockdowns per game.

Stevens, also a 2020 HERO Sports Preseason All-American, continues to rake in the honors despite missing the majority of the 2019 season after suffering an injury in Maine's 2019 season opening win over Sacred Heart. Prior to the injury, Stevens represented the Black Bears with selections to hte 2019 STATS FCS Preseason All-American Third Team and preseason All-CAA squad. In 2018, his last full season of competition, Stevens was honored to the All-CAA Second Team and was named a FCS Hero Sports Sophomore All-American after registering 120 tackles, 17.0 for loss, and 9.0 sacks.

Miller had an explosive junior campaign after appearing in 11 games while registering career-highs in receptions (28), receiving yards (529) and touchdowns (4). Miller set Maine's all-time school record with a 90 yard touchdown reception in a road win at UAlbany. During the season, Miller tallied a pair of 100+ yard receiving performances, including four catches for a season best 115 yards, including an 87 yard score, against Richmond. Miller also surpassed the century mark with five catches for 108 yards and a touchdown at Liberty.

Otero, who started all 12 games in 2019, ranked second on the team a year ago with 83 tackles including career-highs in tackle for loss (5.0) and sacks (3.0). Otero, whose 6.9 tackles per game ranked tied for 17th among CAA leaders, added two fumble recoveries and six pass deflections to impressive sophomore season. Otero tallied four games with 10 or more tackles, including a career-high 12 stops and a fumble recovery against William and Mary. Otero notched a career-high 2.0 sacks to go along with 11 tackles in a win at Elon while making 10 stops in a home victory over Rhode Island.

Colee, a veteran with appearances in 35 games over his career at Maine, has been a weapon on Maine's punt coverage unit. Colee tallied three stops, including two in a win over Rhode Island, a year ago while playing a key part in Maine's field goal and point after strategy and execution.
