Box Score BOSTON, Mass – The University of Maine women's ice hockey team completed the series sweep of the No. 8 Terriers with a final score of 2-1 on Saturday afternoon. The sweep advances Maine to the Hockey East semifinal round where it will meet Northeastern at Lawler Rink at Merrimack College.

For the second straight day, the Black Bears jumped out in front in the first period over the Terriers.
Ida Kuoppala got the scoring going for UMaine with just over four minutes left in the period as she scored her 19
th of the season, and second of the weekend, to get the early 1-0 lead. Her power play goal came at the edge of the faceoff circle as she fired home a wrist shot on the Terriers.

Maine would continue to build on their strong play as they got their second goal of the game, this one coming with just under two minutes left in the second period. Tereza Vanisova took the puck off of the good defensive play by
Ida Press (10) and she did the rest, going coast-to-coast and netting her 14
th goal of her final season.

Carly Jackson would go into the third period a perfect 13-for-13 on saves.

The third period would find both Jackson and Corienne Schroeder holding up strong for their respective teams through the first 10 minutes of the period.

The Terriers would eventually break through the strong performance by Jackson as they scored their first of the contest with 5:58 left in the third period. Julia Nearis got her team on the board to trim the deficit to 2-1. Abbey Stanley and Alex Allan picked up the assists.

That would be the final tally of the game, meaning that the Black Bears completed the series sweep and advanced onto the semifinal matchup.

Schroeder finished with 32 saves for her team.
Carly Jackson picked up the win with another impressive outing, this one good for 27 of 28 on her saves.
This marks only the second time the program has reached the conference semifinals, with the first time also coming against the Terriers back in 2018.

Maine will be making the trip to Merrimack College as they host the conference semifinals matchup on Saturday, March 7.
