ORONO, Maine _ The University of Maine women's ice hockey team ended the regular season in a draw against the Catamounts of Vermont, 2-2.
Vermont would grab the early lead in Burlington on Saturday evening as Maude Poulin-Labelle got her squad on the board first. She scored at the 3:36 mark into the first period. Abby Cleary and Hailey Burns picked up assists on the play.
The Black Bears would bounce back with a strong second period, as they scored a pair in the period. The first came off of the stick of Tereza Vanisova, as she scored her 13
th goal of the season to get the game tied at 1-1.
Brittany Colton (11) and
Taylor Leech (11) picked up the assists.
Liga Miljone would find the back of the net for second Black Bear goal as she scored her 10
th goal of the season, giving Maine a 2-1 lead.
Ida Press (8) and
Ali Beltz (18) picked up the assists on the play.
As the third period neared the midway point, Theresa Schafzahl tied the game back up, this time at 2-2. Ali O'Leary and Ellice Murphy picked up the assists on the play.
Overtime would come and go without a score, resulting in a 2-2 tie.
Maine, who ends the 2019-20 regular season with a 13-13-8 record, 9-11-7 in Hockey East, will take to the road for the first of round of the playoffs as they head to Boston University for a best of three series. Those games will take place from Friday, Feb. 28 through Sunday, Mar. 2, as needed.
