DURHAM, N.H. - Third period goals from
Ali Beltz and
Ida Kuoppala lifted the Maine women's ice hockey to a 2-1 victory of New Hampshire on Saturday afternoon, sweeping the weekend series and raising their overall record to 3-1.
UNH struck first in the second period, finally breaking through
Loryn Porter's defense. Porter was exceptional in goal again today, allowing just the one goal alongside 21 saves. She now sits second in Hockey East with a 1.26 GAA through the first four contests.
Maine waited until the 11:46 mark of the third period to knot things up, but they did so in great fashion with an
Ali Beltz missile beating the UNH goaltender low on the stick side to even things at 1-1:
Seven minutes later, with just barely 90 seconds left in regulation,
Ida Kuoppala stepped up again for the Maine offense, notching her fourth goal of the season off a beautiful wrap-around play assisted by freshman
Rahel Enzler:
That proved to be the game-winner, as Porter stopped all three UNH shots in the final ninety seconds to seal the 2-1 victory.
Maine improves to 3-1 on the season following the weekend sweep at UNH. Their next scheduled contest is at home on December 19th and 20th against Providence.
