DURHAM, N.H. - The University of Maine women's ice hockey team showed no signs of rust after a nearly three-week break, dispatching the Wildcats of New Hampshire by a 2-1 final score on Friday afternoon.
Liga Miljone struck first and struck fast, netting her first goal of the season at the 1:09 mark of the first period:
New Hampshire got one back almost as fast, with Jada Christian noting things at 1-1 midway through the first. The score would hold into the early second period, until
Ida Press found the back of the cage with a skater-up advantage to give Maine a 2-1 lead that they wouldn't let go.
Loryn Porter was exceptional in net, recording 21 saves on the afternoon including 11 in the third period.
Taylor Leech,
Ida Kuoppala,
Amalie Andersen, and
Ally Johnson all recorded assists, and the powerplay killers were a perfect 4-4 on killing off penalties.
It's right back to work tomorrow, as the two teams square off at the same time and place on Saturday afternoon.
