Maine Falls in Overtime Against the Terriers

ORONO, Maine - The University of Maine women's ice hockey team fell in overtime to the Terriers of Boston University, 3-2.
 
The first period found the Terriers scoring twice. Mackenna Parker scored the games opening goal at the 4:55 mark, as she scored on the second effort against the UMaine goaltender, Carly Jackson. Natasza Tarnowski and Courtney Correia picked up assists on the play.
 
Boston University would find the back of the net again, as Julia Nearis increased the Terriers lead to 2-0 at the 18:43 mark in the first period. Jesse Compher and Sammy Davis picked up assists on the play.
 
The second period found both goalies locked in a battle, as neither allowed a score in the period. Kate Stuart picked up seven saves in the period, making her total 19 through the first two periods. Carly Jackson picked up 17 saves in the second period, increasing her total to 24 in the first 40 minutes of action.
 
The third period started off in a hurry, as Michelle Weis scored her second goal of the season at the 7:03 mark. Weis won the battle for the puck on the boards as she took it away from the defender and fired a shot from in front of the goaltender that found its way into the back of the net.
 
With less than 7 minutes remaining in the game, Celine Tedenby blocks a shot and then takes the blocked puck and goes coast-to-coast to score her seventh goal of the season off of the five-hole shot on Stuart, tying the game at 2-2.
 
The game would take overtime to decide a winner, where the Terriers would strike the final goal. Nara Elia would score with 2:30 remaining in the overtime period, giving Boston University their 13th win of the season. Nadia Mattivi and Alex Allan picked up assists on the play.
 
Kate Stuart finished with 27 saves in the winning effort, as Carly Jackson ended with 36 saves in the game!
 
Maine (8-10-2, 4-8-1 Hockey East) will stay in Boston in take on the Terriers for the third and final game of the regular season against the conference opponent.
