Women's Ice Hockey Ties with Boston University

ORONO, Maine – The University of Maine women's ice hockey team tied the #8 Boston University Terriers in the second game of the weekend, 3-3.
 
The first period had the Black Bears scoring three times and the Terriers scoring once.
 
Maine got the offense going in a hurry, as Liga Miljone scored her sixth goal of the season off of the rebound from a shot by Ella MacLean (5).  Ebba Strandberg (3) also picked up an assist on the play. The Black Bears would keep the offense going, scoring for the second time in the first 6:16 of the game. Ida Press fired a slap shot from the blue line that found its way to the back of the net for her fifth goal of the season. Ida Kuoppala (6) and Ali Beltz (9) picked up assists on the play.
 
Just 48 seconds later, the Black Bears would increase their lead to 3-0 as Michelle Weis scored her third goal of the season. Tereza Vanisova (13) and Brittany Colton (9) picked up assists on the play.
 
The Terriers would find an answer as Courtney Correia scored a goal to decrease the Maine lead to 3-1.  Abby Cook and Alex Allan picked up the assists on the play.
 
The second period was a defensive battle, as both goaltenders shut out their opponents in the period.
 
The Terriers would strike again in the third period, as Nadia Mattivi scored the second goal for Boston University at the 6:41 mark. Jesse Compher and Sammy Davis picked up assists on the play.
 
Boston University tied the game up at the 9:02 mark in the third when Sammy Davis scored a power play goal against the Black Bears. Jesse Compher and Abby Cook picked up assists on the play.
 
The game would require overtime for the second time on the weekend, this time with it ended in a 3-3 tie.
 
Corinne Schroeder finished with 14 saves in the contest, while Carly Jackson finished with 32 saves for the Black Bears.
 
Maine (8-10-3, 4-8-2 HEAW) will return home for a weekend matchup against Holy Cross on Friday, January 10 and Saturday, January 11. Both games are scheduled to begin at 2:00 P.M.
