Maine Comes Up Short Against Kent State

KENT, Ohio - The University of Maine Black Bears wrapped up their weekend trip to Ohio on Sunday afternoon, falling to the Golden Flashes of Kent State by a 2-1 final score. Maine controlled much of the action but struggled to find back of the net despite outshooting Kent State by a 16-10 margin on the day.

The loss drops the Black Bears down to an 0-3 record on the 2019 season.

MAINE GAME NOTES AND HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Black Bears had their chances, outshooting Kent State 16-10 and 13-4 on shots on goal. Azure Fernsler was a wall for Golden Flashes, however, making ten saves on the day.
  • Maine's lone goal came off the stick of senior Brianna Ricker from an assist off the stick of Brittany Smith. Scored with just 15 seconds left in the fourth quarter, the Black Bears simply ran out of time to get the equalizer.
  • Both Kent State goals were recorded in the first half, otherwise the Maine netminder Mia Borley continued her solid play to start the 2019 season, facing ten shots and recording a pair of saves.
  • Nine different Black Bears recorded a shot today,  as the team continues to try and find its way offensively in the early stages of the 2019 slate.
