Orono, Maine -- The University of Maine football team has climbed to No. 6 in both the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Coaches Poll and the STATS FCS Top-25 Poll, as announced by the organizations on Monday, Sept. 2.
The Black Bears, who opened the season at No. 7 in each of the two national polls, climbed one spot in each ranking after a convincing, 42-14 victory over visiting Sacred Heart in Friday evening's season opener.
Maine has remained in the STATS FCS Top 25 Poll for 15 straight weeks dating back to Sept. 3, 2018. The Black Bears were ranked in the Top 25 of the FCS Coaches Poll for 11 of 14 weeks during the 2018 season and have been ranked by the FCS Coaches for six-straight weeks, dating back to Nov. 5, 2018.
The Black Bears return to action on Saturday, Sept. 7 when they travel to take on Georgia Southern of the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) at 6 p.m. live on ESPN+.
