Black Bears to Host Merrimack in Non-Conference Action

ORONO, Maine - The University of Maine field hockey team is set to host the Warriors of Merrimack College this weekend, a non-conference tilt scheduled to start at 1:00 PM.

Merrimack at Maine | Broadcast | Live Stats
Date: Saturday, September 20th
Time: 1:00 PM
Site: UMaine Field Hockey Complex
Series History: This will be the first ever meeting between the two programs.

BLACK BEAR BRIEFING
  • Despite glimpses of the brilliance, the Black Bears have been unable to put together a consistent on field product yet in the 2019 season, thus leading to their 1-6 overall record. This game will serve as their last chance to sort things out before the America East schedule begins on October 4th against UMass-Lowell.
  • The bulk of Maine's offense has come via senior captain Brianna Ricker, whose 11 points on the year amount for seven more than anybody else on the roster.
  • Brook Sulinski and Chloe Walton each have two goals apiece on the year, constituting the only other repeat scorers on the roster.
  • Maine's netminder is Mia Borley, who's posted a 3.11 GAA and 37 total saves on the season so far.
  • The Black Bears goal differential per game is -1.57, as four of their six losses have come by a single goal.
MERRIMACK MUSINGS
  • The Warriors are still in search of their first win of the 2019 season, their first at the Division I level, losing seven straight to begin the year. They've faced a couple mutual opponents in Temple (L, 0-3) and Northeastern (L, 0-7).
  • Freshman Catherine Henaire has two of Merrimack's five goals on the season, both coming against Davidson on September 14th.
  • Katharina Ohmen handles the goal for the Warriors, with a 3.61 GAA and 75 saves so far in her senior season.
  • Megan Shea is guiding the Merrimack program forward into Divison I in her third season at the helm. Shea posted a 29-11 record in her first two seasons and delivered a Northeast-10 Conference championship a year ago.
