No. 24 Black Bears return home to host Boston Univ., Columbia

ORONO, Maine - The No. 24 ranked Black Bears field hockey team returns home for a weekend set of games against Boston University and Columbia University, chasing their first win after an 0-3 start to the 2019 season.

ABOUT THE BLACK BEARS
  • Maine has started the season 0-3 for the first time since 2013, as the team looks to find their way in the early stages of 2019. 
  • Improvement has come for the Black Bears no both sides of the ball, as their shots on goal have increased each game while their opponent's totals have fallen.
  • Mia Borley has been incredibly solid in goal for the Bears, averaging 3.11 goals per game and making 18 saves across the three games. 
  • Brooke Sulinski and Brianna Ricker each have two goals apiece to lead the offense. 
  • The Black Bears have done an exceptional job staying clean on the penalty sheet, tallying just a single green card on the season. 
ABOUT THE TERRIERS
  • Boston University has started hot this year, with a 3-1 record and the one loss coming against the No. 14 ranked Ohio State Buckeyes. 
  • Junior Ailsha Connolly leads the way with five goals so far, along with a pair of assists for 12 total points. 
  • Freshman Caroline Kelly handles the netminding responsibilities for BU, posting a 2.33 GAA with 29 saves over the four contests. 
  • NFHCA Hall of Famer Sally Starr has led the Terriers for nearly four decades, making 14 NCAA Tournament appearances in that time.

ABOUT THE LIONS
  • Columbia sits at an even 1-1 far this season, with a 5-3 win over Central Michigan to start the year prior to a 3-1 setback at the hands of No. 8 Iowa last Sunday. They will play Boston University in a neutral site contest on Saturday prior to their game with Maine.  
  • Jennifer Trieschman leads the Lions with three goals so far, and is the only Lion with multiple goals thus far. 
  • Junior Alexa Conomikes is the goalkeeper for Columbia, posting a 3.07 GAA with 16 saves. 
  • In her fifth season at Columbia, the Lions are led by former U.S. National Team member and two-time Olympian Caroline Nelson-Nichols.
