ORONO, Maine – University of Maine men's basketball coach
Richard Barron has announced the additions of Precious Okoh and Taylor Schildroth to the 2019-20 roster. Both are immediately eligible to play as freshman and compete in the upcoming season.
"We are very excited to welcome Precious and Taylor to our program," said Barron of the newest Black Bears. "Both players have shown great scoring ability at the high school level. They are tough competitors with deep shooting range."
Precious Okoh | 6-1 | 188 lbs | G | Brockton, Mass./Bradford Christian
Okoh, a guard from Bradford Christian Academy earned New England Preparatory School Athletic Council (NEPSAC) Class AA Honorable Mention honors in 2018-19. He averaged 19.4 points per game, while bringing down 4.0 rebounds per contest.
He recorded 20-plus points in nine games, including a 43-point outburst against Proctor Academy, in which he shot 16-for-25 from the field and 11-of-17 from 3-point range. Overall, Okoh shot 44 percent from long distance last season.
Taylor Schildroth | 6-0 | 175 lbs | G | Blue Hill, Maine/George Stevens Academy
Schildroth, a three-time Bangor Daily News All-Maine guard, helped lead George Stevens Academy to three Class C titles. The powerhouse Eagles went 64-2 in his tenure, graduating in 2018. In his senior season, Schildroth averaged 21 points, five rebounds and seven assists per game, as he was named a finalist for both Mr. Maine Basketball and Maine Gatorade Player of the Year.
Against Lee Academy on January 6, 2017, Schildroth dropped a GSA record 61 points. He shot 20-of-36 shooting from the field, while going 12-of-21 from beyond the arc. The performance is believed to be ranked the sixth-best scoring performance in state history, and the most points by a Mainer this century.
The eligibility of all student-athletes is contingent upon admission to the University of Maine and compliance with all NCAA rules, including registration with the NCAA Eligibility Center.
