Men's Basketball Announces Four Transfers for 2025-26 Season

Orono, ME – Head Coach of the University of Maine men's basketball program Chris Markwood announced four transfers are joining the program for the 2025-26 season.

Ryan Mabrey, a native of Belmar, N.J. joins the Black Bears after spending last season at Quinnipiac University. He averaged 4.3 PPG over 32 games, knocking down 31 three-pointers. He scored a season-high 17 against St. John's on Nov. 9.

Markwood on Mabrey: "Ryan is a highly skilled guard with great size and feel for the game, who comes from a great basketball pedigree. He has played a lot of college basketball throughout his career, and knows what it takes to win."

Yanis Bamba, a native of Laval, Quebec, Canada, joins the Black Bears after spending two seasons at Wichita State. He appeared in four games, scoring two points against Alcorn on 12/4. He was a member of the 2023-24 AAC All-Academic Team.

Markwood on Bamba: "Yanis is someone who we recruited heavily out of high school. He is an extremely versatile "two-way" player that can play multiple positions on the perimeter and possesses a great combination of size, athleticism, and skill."

TJ Biel, a native of Calgary, Alberta, Canada joins the Black Bears after spending the last two seasons at Southeast Missouri State University. He averaged 2.8 PPG over 61 games as he racked up 118 rebounds, 23 steals and 19 blocks.

Markwood on Biel: "TJ is another extremely versatile "two-way" player who can play multiple positions. He is a very fluid athlete for his size at 6'8, with a great motor, and has the ability to score the ball in a variety of ways."

Mehki Gray, a native of Montrose, N.Y. joins the Black Bears after spending five years between NJIT and UMass Lowell. He has averaged 7 PPG in 115 career games, dishing out 168 assists, swiping 97 steals and getting 56 blocks.

Markwood on Gray: "Mekhi is a dynamic "two-way" guard who is proven in the America East. He is an electric athlete with a well-rounded game, and brings great versatility to both sides of the basketball."
