NEW YORK—Former women's ice hockey player
Cailey Hutchison '19 signed a professional contract with the Metropolitan Riveters of the National Women's Hockey League on Tuesday.
Hutchison, a Hicksville, New York native, was drafted by the Riveters 21
st overall in the 2019 NWHL Draft
in December.
"Signing my first NWHL contract is a surreal experience," Hutchison said to the NWHL. "When the NWHL first started and I learned there was a team in the New York area-- ever since 2015, It was my goal to play for the Riveters, and I can't believe that day is finally here."
Hutchison finished her Black Bears career with 127 games played and 20 points, and was an assistant captain for Maine in the 2018-19 season.
"She has been an important key to our program having its recent success," said head coach
Richard Reichenbach. "Every time we have alumnae in the NWHL it is an honor for our program. We are excited to have our third alumni join the Riveters."
Hutchison joins a group of former Maine players with time in the NWHL, including
Audra Richards who played for the Riveters last season, as well as Harrison Browne who retired from the league in 2018.
"Cailey is a tough and aggressive player with a strong work ethic and positive attitude," Riveters general manager Kate Whitman Annis said of Hutchison. "I'm really happy to have her signed for her rookie season as a Riveter."
