Fleming grabs America East Second Team All-Conference honors, while Stojiljkovic lands on the All-Academic Team.
BOSTON – On Friday, the America East Conference announced that Andrew Fleming and Ilija Stojiljkovic received conference postseason honors for their efforts on the court and in the classroom. Fleming earned America East All-Conference Second Team honors, while Stojiljkovic landed on the conference's All-Academic Team.
Â
Fleming led the Black Bears this season in scoring, rebounding and assists this season, pouring in 13.8 points per game, while grabbing 7.0 rebounds per contest and distributing 3.1 assists per game. He posted four double-doubles on the season, recording double-figures in 22 of 28 games he appeared in.
Â
The native of Norway, Maine earned America East Player of the Week Honors on Feb. 4, after becoming the first Division I men's basketball player in at least 20 seasons to shoot 90 percent from the field on at least 20 field goal attempts in a single game. He achieved the feat against UMass Lowell on Jan. 30, as Fleming totaled a career-high 38 points, draining 18-of-20 field goal attempts, while grabbing eight rebounds and four steals. He tied an America East record with 18 field goals in a single game and his 38 points were the most by a Black Bear since Errick Greene recorded 45 points in an overtime loss to Norfolk State on December 11, 2001.
Â
The junior added some new elements to his game this season, as he became a threat to score from long distance, sinking 24 3-pointers on the season. He also doubled his assist total from his sophomore season (42 to 88). He set new career-bests on the season in field goal percentage (.478), 3-point field goal percentage (.329), rebounds per game (7.0), assists per game (3.1) and steals per game (1.2). Fleming suffered a broken wrist against Stony Brook on Feb. 23 and is out for the season, but will enter his senior season just 12 points shy of 1,000 career points. He reached the 500 career-rebound plateau against UMass Lowell this season.
Â
The honor is Fleming's second career conference honor. He earned a spot on the America East All Rookie Team in 2016-17. He is the first Black Bear to earn all-conference second team honors since Justin Edwards and Alasdair Fraser were both selected to the second team in the 2012-13 season.
Â
Stojiljkovic paced Maine's best semester academically since at least 1988, holding a team-high 3.75 GPA as a management major with a concentration in information systems. He is an athletic academic tutor, a member of the student-athlete advisory committee, along with being a member of Male Athletes against Violence. He has made the dean's list five times and is a UMaine gold scholar athlete. Last season, Stojiljkovic was selected to the National Association of Basketball Coaches' Honors Court, while also earning a spot on both the America East's Presidential Honor Roll and ECAC's President's Honor Roll. Â
Â
He was recently selected as the 2019 Outstanding International Undergraduate Student for the Maine Business School. The Nis, Serbia native is very active in the local community, also earning a spot on the America East Helping Hands Team.
Â
Fleming, Stojiljkovic and the rest of the Black Bears will open the America East playoffs at No. 1 Vermont on Saturday night in Burlington.
