ORONO, Maine - The University of Maine women's hockey team tied the Providence College Friars 2-2 on Saturday afternoon in Orono.
First Goal (Maine 1-0):
Celine Tedenby scored the first goal of the game at 18:54 of the second period.
Ali Beltz started the play behind her own net, dishing a short pass off to Vendula Pribylova along the boards. Pribylova sent a pass through the neutral zone to catch a streaking Tedenby, who rushed into the zone and fired off her 12th goal of the season.
Second Goal (1-1): Providence responded less than two minutes later on a goal from Neve Van Pelt. Sara Hjalmarsson let the play develop until Van Pelt could free herself from the Black Bear defense. Once she received the puck, Van Pelt fired in to tie the game in the second.
Third Goal (2-1 Maine): The Black Bears re-took the lead when
Cailey Hutchison scored on the power play with 9:12 left in the second period.
Liga Miljone fired a shot from the top of the face-off circle that was kicked back out for a long rebound for Hutchison to tip home.
Fourth Goal (2-2): Meaghan Rickard even the score again when she found the back of the net with 1:33 to go in the second period. Immediately off of the face-off won by Maureen Murphy, Rickard fired a wobbling wrist shot dropped in high on goal.
Notes:
- Maine's penalty kill was crucial, going 3-for-3 in the game including a penalty for the final 1:35 of overtime to keep the game tied at two goals apiece.
- This is eighth tie the Friars and Black Bears have had at Alfond Arena, with 12 overall ties in the series between the two.
- Carly Jackson finished with 20 saves, while Madison Myers tallied 22.
- Alyson Matteau earned the game's third star with eight blocked shots in the game, with the team blocking 13 shots total.
Next: The Black Bears will travel to Boston College to take on the Eagles. Game one is scheduled for Thursday, February 14th with a 7:00 pm puck drop.
