MAINE NOTES

LAST TIME OUT

  • The Black Bears traded buckets with the hosting Minutemen of UMass in the opening minutes of their last tilt two Fridays ago, taking a 10-8 lead at the 16:00 minute mark of the first half after an Andrew Fleming dunk.
  • The Minutemen did their best work of the evening after that, however, rattling off a 23-5 run over 7:35 of game time to build an insurmountable lead. Maine managed to cut the lead down to single digits multiple times, but never could come all the way back, as UMass cruised to the 74-53 victory.
  • Nedeljko Prijovic followed up a 15-point performance against Quinnipiac with a 14-point performance tonight on 6-11 shooting from the field to lead Maine offensively.
  • Sergio El Darwich totaled eight rebounds on the evening while collecting three steals.
  • Maine broke 20+ turnovers as a team for the fourth time this year with 21 miscues tonight, while forcing 13 UMass turnovers that they turned into 15 points.
  • Maine shot 39.6% (19-48) from the field on the evening, alongside a 25.0% (4-16) mark from three and a 61.1% (11-18) performance from the free-throw line.
LOOKING AHEAD
  • This will be the first-ever meeting between these two Universities, as Maine adds nearly 4,000 more miles to their already astounding travel log during this 2019-20 season.
  • After finishing up in the islands, Maine will return home for back-to-back dates at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor, first against Columbia in their final non-conference tilt on January 2nd, followed by their America East opener against Stony Brook on the 5th at 1:00 PM.
  • Five of the Black Bears' eight games in January will be at home, after playing just four games at the Cross Insurance Center in the season's first 13 contests.

A LOOK AT HAWAII

  • The Rainbow Warriors return nine letter-winners from last year's roster, a squad that went 18-13 and finished sixth in the Big West Conference. UH welcomes six newcomers this year - one Division I transfer and five from the high school ranks. The Division I transfer is Ahmed Ali, a guard who started 24 games for Washington State in 2018-19.
  • Eddie Stansberry leads the offense with 16.5 points per game on 40.1% shooting from the floor. Samuta Avea (10.9) and Drew Buggs (10.2) join him in double-digits, with Zigmars Raimo (9.7) right on the cusp.
  • Stansberry makes his money from deep, registered 117 3-point attempts this year to lead the team and rank fourth in the nation, more than the second and third-ranked players on the Hawaii roster combined. He hits at a 34.2% clip from beyond the arc.
  • Zigmars Raimo leads the way with 7.4 rebounds a game, while Buggs paces the offense with 5.6 assists a game, which is the 35th best mark in the nation.
  • Head Coach Eran Ganot returns for his fifth season at Hawaii, with a 77-48 record so far. No UH coach in the collegiate era has won more games (77) in his first four seasons.
