MAINE GAME NOTES
- The Bears ended their eight game road trip with a victory on Saturday afternoon, holding off a ferocious rally attempt by the Central Connecticut Blue Devils to come away with a 66-64 victory in Connecticut. This one truly came down to the wire, as Maine saw a nine-point lead at the 3:18 mark evaporate via a 10-2 CCSU run. After Andrew Fleming went 1-2 at the free throw line with ten seconds remaining, Maine found themselves up by two against the CCSU offense. Myles Barker, who had scored eight of Central Connecticut's last nine points, got Nedeljko Prijovic to bite on the shot fake on a stepback three, but Prijovic recovered to get the clutch block to seal Maine's 66-64 win.
- The Black Bears enter the week ranked 21st in the nation by ESPN and 27th by KenPom.com in strength of schedule across all of Division I men's basketball. Vermont is the next highest-ranked America East team in each ranking, coming in at 38th on ESPN and 52nd on KenPom.com.
- Maine's team profile is beginning to emerge here as we near the halfway point of the season, as evidenced by their standing in the conference team statistic rankings. They rank first in the America East and in the nation in assist to field goal percentage, registering an assist on 70.6% of their field goal makes this year. They also rank first in the conference in rebounds allowed (29.6), second in 3-point field goal defense (29.1%), and third in rebounding margin (+4.7), points allowed per game (64.0), blocks per game (3.78), and assists per game (15.4).
- Redshirt freshman Stephane Ingo put up five blocks on December 1st against UConn, not only a career-high for the young Canadian, but the first time a Black Bear has reached five blocks in a single game since Mike Allison accomplished the feat on January 30th of 2013 against UNH.
- Maine features one of the youngest rosters in the America East this season with seven freshmen on their bench this year. Of those seven, six different nations are represented, as Maine features players from Canada, Denmark, Sweden, Serbia, Turkey, and the United States. Overall, Maine has representatives from ten different countries, with Lebanon, Latvia, Ukraine, and England being represented
