MAINE GAME NOTES
  • The Black Bears got off on a good foot last Wednesday when they took down Merrimack College in their season opener by an 84-64 final score. Playing in their first regular-season opener at home since the 2008-09 season, the Black Bears entertained a crowd of 1,089 at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.
  • Maine put up an impressive statistical performance on Wednesday. The 20-point victory was their largest margin of victory since the 2016-17 season, and their 56.0% performance from the field marked the highest team number since the 2015-16 season.
  • The starting five of Andrew Fleming, Mykhailo Yagodin, Vilgot Larsson, Nedeljko Prijovic, and Sergio El Darwich put up an impressive 2.1273 points per minute in the victory, as Fleming, Yagodin, Larsson, and El Darwich played all 40 minutes end-to-end.
  • Wednesday evening turned into an Andrew Fleming show quickly. Entering the game just 12 points shy of 1,000 career points, Fleming achieved that milestone early in the first half. He became just the 31st Black Bear to join the club in the program's history.
  • For good measure, Fleming poured in 37 points (one shy of his career-high), 10 rebounds, five assists, and a pair of blocks to lead the Black Bears.
  • Junior Vilgot Larsson quietly put up an exceptional line of his own, starting his season with 19 points on 7-11 shooting from the field, along with five assists and four rebounds.
  • This is Maine's first 1-0 start to a regular season since they opened the 2010-11 season with a victory over Utah Valley.

HARVARD GAME NOTES
  • The Crimson opened its season against Division III MIT on Tuesday night, handling their neighbors by an 84-27 final score. Their first tilt against a Division I opponent came on Friday night, an 84-79 loss to Northeastern on the road.
  • Harvard has won seven of the last nine Ivy League championships, and returns 96.7 percent of its scoring from a year ago, which is the third-most nationally. They were the top seed in the Ivy League tournament in 2019 and went on to advance to the second round of the NIT for the first time in program history.
  • Bryce Aiken is the focal point of the Harvard offense, leading the team last year with 22.2 points per game, the third-highest single-season mark in Harvard basketball's history. Aiken was named one of fifty student-athletes on this year's watch list for the Naismith Trophy, awarded annually to men's player of the year.
  • Harvard returns two other Ivy League All-Conference First Team recipients alongside Aiken in the form of Seth Towns and Chris Lewis. They also return last year's Ivy League Rookie of the Year Justin Bassey.
