Women's Ice Hockey Falls in Overtime to Merrimack

ORONO, Maine – The University of Maine women's hockey team was defeated the Warriors of Merrimack, 4-3 in overtime.
 
The first period was a defensive battle, as both teams were unable to find the back of the net. Loryn Porter was perfect in net for Maine, going six for six on saves. For the Warriors, Lea-Kristine Demers was a perfect 10 for 10 on saves for her squad.
 
The second period began with goals in bunches, with the Black Bears striking first.
 
Ali Beltz got the scoring going, netting her third goal of the season off of the breakaway started by Liga Miljone and Amalie Andersen just 27 seconds into the period. They both picked up assists on the play. The Warriors wasted no time timing the game, as they found the back of the net just 3:22 later. Mikyla Grant-Mentis found the net, beating Porter just above her blocker. Courtney Maud and Dominika Laskova picked up assists on the play.
 
The Black Bears would remain in a tie for another 1:13, until Celine Tedenby picked up the breakaway goal, her first of the season. Ali Beltz, who picked up her second point of the game, set up the goal after the smart thinking play on the two on goalie breakaway. Amalie Andersen also picked up an assist on the play, her second of the game.
 
Porter kept the Black Bear ahead by one, as she made a big save on the Warriors two on one breakaway, as she slid to her glove side and made the save.
 
Just as the second period was about in the books, Celine Tedenby added her second goal of the goal as she netted a power play goal. Liga Miljone picked up her second assist of the game and Amalie Andersen picked up her third assist on the goal, as Maine increased their lead, 3-1.
 
The third period would have Merrimack get some early momentum, but Porter able to shut them down. The Warriors deflected a shot onto the net as Porter had to switch directions and slide over to make the great save 3:48 into the third period.
 
The Warriors would find the net later on in the period, as Dani Castino scores her (). Mikyla Grant-Mentis and Kiki Roust picked up assists on the play.
 
With 5:10 left in the period, Kiki Roust tied up the game at 3-3 for the Warriors. Mikyla Grant-Mentis and Dani Castino picked up assists on the goal.
 
The game would head into overtime, where 2:09 into the period, the Warriors would net the game winner. Mikyla Grant-Mentis scored her second of the game to give Merrimack the win. Gabby Jones picked up the assist.
 
Loryn Porter finished with 24 saves for the Black Bears, who fell to a 3-4-2, as Demers had 33 saves to propel her team to a 3-7-2 record.
 
The Black Bears will look to bounce back against Holy Cross on Saturday, Nov. 9. That Hockey East matchup is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m.
