Black Bears to take on No. 25 Washington

SEATTLE, WA. - The University of Maine men's basketball program finishes up their two-game West Coast swing on Tuesday night, when they take on the No. 25 Washington University Huskies at Alaska Airlines Arena in Seattle.

MAINE GAME NOTES
  • Maine got their season off to a 1-0 start with a 20-point win over Merrimack College, but fell to Harvard on the road last Sunday by a 67-46 final score to fall to 1-1 on the year. 
  • The first date on the West Coast came on Saturday night with the Pilots of Portland University hosting the Black Bears in Oregon. The game featured eight lead changes and four ties, but a 16-5 run between the 6:31 and 1:09 mark of the final stanza allowed Portland to cruise to the 71-62 final score victory. 
  • Sergio El Darwich led the way for Maine for the second straight contest, logging just under 40 minutes and 21 points, five assists, and four rebounds. 
  • El Darwich was one of three Black Bears to reach double-figures, joined by Andrew Fleming and Nedeljko Prijovic with 14 and 10 respectively. Fleming also added in six assists and five rebounds, while Prijovic pulled down a team-high seven boards and threes steals. 
  • Junior Nedeljko Prijovic has been a beast on the boards, averaging a team-high 10.0 rebounds per game, notching his first career double-double against Harvard with 11 points and 12 boards and pulling down seven boards at Portland. 
WASHINGTON WAYS
  • Coming off a second round exit in last year's NCAA Tournament, the Washington Huskies return nine letterwinners but just one starter from last year's team.
  • Mike Hopkins returns for his third season at the helm of Washington, touting a 48-22 record with the Huskies.
  • Two newcomers landed on the Pac-12 Preseason All-Conference team, as freshmen Isaiah Stewart and Jaden McDaniels were honored in the league's inaugural preseason selection.
  • The No. 25 ranked Huskies started the season with a bang, defeating No. 16 Baylor by a 67-64 final in their season opener, following int with a 56-46 win over Mount St. Mary's (Md.) a few days later. Their first set back finally came on Saturday, when Tennessee defeated the Huskies in Toronto at the James Naismith Hall of Fame Classic by a 75-62 final score. 
  • Nahziah Carter leads the team in scoring at a 18.3 ppg clip, and is tied for the team lead in rebounding with Isaiah Stewart at 7.3 boards per game. Quade Green paces the Huskies with 6.0 assists a game.
