ORONO, Maine -- University of Maine freshman quarterback
Joe Fagnano has been named the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Co-Rookie of the Week, as announced by the league on Monday, Nov. 11.
Fagnano, who earns his second rookie of the week honor of the season, completed 20-of-29 passes for 320-yards with a pair of touchdowns in Maine's 31-17 victory at Elon. Fagnano threw touchdown completions of 60 and 88-yards in the win and now holds the UMaine all-time mark for the three longest touchdowns passes in school history (90, 88, 87-yards). The Black Bears raced out to a 28-0 lead in the first quarter at Elon, assisted in part by Fagnano's impressive first quarter numbers which saw him go 6-of-7 for 167-yards and two touchdowns.
Fagnano's 320-yard afternoon marked the second-highest of his four starts, and the fourth consecutive game in which he's thrown for 249 or more yards. The freshman has now thrown for two or more touchdowns in each of his four career starts.
The Black Bears return to action on Senior Day in Orono as they host Rhode Island on Saturday, Nov. 16 at noon. Tickets are still available and may be purchased online at
