Maine to take on conference rival Monmouth, host Quinnipiac

ORONO, Maine - The University of Maine field hockey program will put their modest two-game winning streak on the line this weekend, first against America East rival Monmouth University on Friday afternoon, followed by a non-conference tilt with Quinnipiac at noon on their home turf in Orono.  

The Black Bears are fresh off their best weekend of the season by far. They started things off with a tense 1-0 victory in their America East opener against UMass Lowell on Friday afternoon, and then followed that with a dramatic 4-3 overtime victory over the No. 5 Northwestern Wildcats on Sunday.

BLACK BEAR BRIEF
  • Maine is led offensive by senior co-captain Brianna Ricker, who's overtime game-winner against Northwestern gave her nine goals and 19 total points on the season. She ranks within the top-five in America East in both categories and has scored in three straight contests. 
  • Brooke Sulinski and Chloe Walton each have three goals apiece, and Cassandra Mascarenhas has four assists to round out the offensive leaders for Maine.
  • The goalkeeping responsibilities fall to reigning America East Defensive Player of the Week Mia Borley. Borley has posted a 2.69 goals-against-average with 49 saves over the season and has found her rhythm lately with a .749 save percentage in the last four contests.
  • With a 1-0 record within the conference, Maine sits in a three-way tie with UAlbany and Monmouth for the top spot in the East Division of the conference. 
MONMOUTH MINUTES
  • In their first season in the America East, the Hawks have posted a 7-4 overall record, while also pulling off a 5-1 victory over New Hampshire in their inaugural conference matchup. 
  • Monmouth boasts the top offense in America East so far, with a 3.455 scoring average with 38 goals in 11 games. 
  • The Hawks have three players in the top-ten of the conference's leading goal-scorers,  led by sophomore Annick Van Lange and her ten goals. Freshmen Yasmin Pratt and Aylin Aufenacker each have seven goals, the fourth-most in the conference. 
  • Kate O'Hogan is in net for Monmouth, with a 1.64 goals-against average and 33 saves so far. 
  • In her 13th year, Carli Figlio leads the Hawks into their first America East season after winning the program's fifth-straight Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Regular Season Championship and earning the program's third NCAA Tournament berth last season.

BOBCAT BULLETIN 
  • Quinnipiac has posted a 3-8 overall record so far this season, alongside a 1-2 record in the Big East. Maine has won the last ten straight meetings between these two programs. 
  • Bianka Strubbe leads the team with five goals on the season, the only repeat scorer on the roster so far. 
  • The netminder is Hedda Biermann-Ratjen, who's logged 51 saves and a 2.41 GAA in 523:45 in goal. 
  • Becca Main is in her 25th season with Quinnipiac, and her third year leading the team within the Big East conference.
