Maine falls to No. 25 Monmouth

EAST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - The University of Maine field hockey team fell to  No. 25 Monmouth on Friday afternoon, evening their America East record to 1-1 so far on the year.

The two teams traded goals in the first five minutes of play, with Brianna Ricker answering a Monmouth goal 4:12 into the contest to make it 1-1. That's as close as the Black Bears would get though, as the Hawks scored three unanswered to cruise to a 4-2 victory.

MAINE GAME NOTES
  • Ricker's goal was her tenth of the season and 21st point of the year, already just three shy of her career-best 24 points during her sophomore season with still six games to go in the regular season.
  • Chloe Walton added her fourth goal of the season in the 56th minute, off an assist from Madisyn Hartley.
  • Maine outshot Monmouth overall by a 10-6 margin, but on-goal tallies were slanted 5-4 in the Hawks' favor.
  • The Black Bears also managed to outpace Monmouth in corners, 6-2.
  • With the loss, Maine falls to 3-8 on the season and 1-1 within the America East.
UP NEXT
  •  The Black Bears return home to Orono on Sunday for their next matchup, a noontime non-conference tilt with Quinnipiac.
