No. 19 Field Hockey Set for a Pair of Contests against Quinnipiac, Lafayette

ORONO, Maine – Coming off an impressive weekend of knocking off two nationally-ranked teams, the No. 19 University of Maine field hockey team is set to take on Quinnipiac on Saturday and Lafayette on Sunday. Both games at Quinnipiac Field Hockey Stadium will have a noon start.

About the #19 Maine Black Bears (3-0, 0-0 America East)
• Last week, the Black Bears took down both No. 19 Boston University and No. 24 Ohio State (OT) by a score of 2-1.
• With the wins, Maine moved up to No. 19 in the latest Penn Monto / NFHCA Poll.
• After scoring the game-winning goal in overtime over Ohio State, Libby Riedl was named the America East Offensive Player of the Week. She now has three goals on the season, tied for the team lead.
• Allowing just one goal apiece to the Terriers and Buckeyes last week, Mia Borley was selected as both the America East Rookie of the Week and the Longstreth / NFHCA Defensive Player of the Week.
• Borley tallied a total of seven saves on the weekend, as the freshman ranks 15th nationally with a 0.98 goals allowed average.
• Maine's No. 19 ranking is the highest since the current Black Bear seniors were ranked as high as No. 17 as freshmen in the final NFHCA Poll of 2015. The Black Bears highest-ever ranking was No. 10 in the 2011 season.
• So far this season, Maine ranks third in the nation in goals per game (4.33), fourth in penalty corners per game (9.67), fifth in points per game (11.67), and ninth in assists per game (3.00).
• Among individual players, Casey Crowley ranks fourth in the country in assists per game (1.00), while Libby Reidl and Samantha Wagg are tied for ninth in Division I with 1.00 goals per game.  
• Last season, Maine out shot Quinnipiac 30-3 in a 3-1 victory in the second game of the season at the UMaine Field Hockey Complex. Riedl, Wagg and Ella Mosky all tallied scores.  
 
About the Quinnipiac Bobcats (2-2 0-0 BIG EAST)
• Each of the past two weekends, the Bobcats have split its matchups, falling to No. 13 Boston College 7-0 in the opener, but followed the loss with a 2-1 win at Vermont in the opening weekend. This past weekend, Quinnipiac defeated Columbia by a score of 3-2, but dropped a 2-0 tilt against Michigan State. 
•  In four games, five different Bobcats have registered a goal. Valerie Perkins leads the team with three points.
•  In goal, Hannah Teicher has patrolled the goal for the majority of the season, allowing five goals and making 13 saves with a 2-1 record. Alicia Gallo started and played the entire game against Boston College in the season opener.
•  The Bobcats were picked to finish fifth of eight teams in the BIG EAST preseason poll, with Elisa Ruiz Martinez garnering All-BIG East preseason honors.

About the Lafayette Leopards (0-3, 0-0 Patriot)
• The Leopards have fallen in three consecutive games to start the season, with losses against Fairfield (3-1), Richmond (4-2), and William & Mary (4-1).
• Before playing Maine on Sunday, Lafayette will battle in-state foe Temple in Easton on Friday night.
• Sam Dimaio, Molly McAndrew, Lisa van der Geest and Caroline Turnbull have all recorded a goal this season.
•  Sarah Park has started all three games in goal, allowing 10 goals and making 18 saves, while facing 36 shots. Freshman Hailey Abbott played 32:46 minutes against Richmond, making a single save.
•  Among the eight teams in the Patriot League, Lafayette was predicted to finish fourth.   
•  van der Geest landed on the All-Patriot League preseason team.   
 
Up Next: The Black Bears will head to Vermont for two neutral-site games next weekend against Cornell (Sept. 14) and America East West Division foe UC Davis (Sept. 16).
