Johns, Lufkin Win America East Titles on Sunday

BALTIMORE, Md. -- Led by two America East title performances, the UMaine men's track and field team wrapped up America East Outdoor Championships on Sunday at UMBC Stadium. The Maine men placed sixth at the conference meet, earning 53 total points.
 
Jacob Johns was the first champion of the day for UMaine. He recorded a time of 3:50.92 in the 1500m to narrowly defeat Eric Holt of Binghamton by less than a 10th of a second. Johns' time is a new personal-best, and ranks fifth all-time in program history.
 
Adam Lufkin delivered an impressive mark in the discus throw, as his PR toss of 52.28m ranks second best all-time at UMaine to earn the America East Championship. He also placed eighth in the shot put on the day, registering a distance of 14.67m.
 
Benjamin Davis and Troy Davis took sixth place in their respective events. B. Davis tallied a time of 10.96 in the 100m to earn Maine three team points. T. Davis leaped 2.02m in the high jump, as the Davis duo both met IC4A qualifying standards on the day.
 
In the triple jump, Elijah White also earned a sixth-place finish on Sunday, putting together a top-distance of 14.42m in the triple jump.
 
Garrett Johnson represented Maine in the decathlon, earning seventh place with a total of 5432 points. He placed second in both the 1500m (4:41.25) and the pole vault (4.04m) in his top events on the weekend.
 
Elijah Yeboah took eighth in the 400m hurdles by crossing the finish line in 55.35.
 
Maine's best relay of the day was the 4x100, as Mozai Nelson, Benjamin Davis, E. Yeboah and Isaac Yeboah completed the event in 42.41 for a fifth-place performance.
 
Albany won the team championship, by earning 219 points. UMass Lowell (165.5), UMBC (125), New Hampshire (97) and Binghamton (77.5) followed second through fifth. Stony Brook (47), Vermont (45) and Hartford (24) round out the squads.
 
Next weekend, Maine will be split between the IC4A Championships in Princeton, New Jersey and the New England Championships, hosted by Dartmouth.
