Maine Ends 2018 With Single Game at Harvard

ORONO, Maine—The UMaine women's ice hockey team heads down to Boston for the last game of 2018, facing off against Harvard University on Friday night.

About the Black Bears
• Maine competed in a weekend series at the University of Vermont, taking the first game 2-1 on Friday before falling 3-2 on Saturday.
• Maine outshot Vermont in both contests, 27-24 on Friday and 26 to 25 on Saturday. The Black Bears are 10-4-1 in games where they've outshot the opponent.
• Tereza Vanisova and Ebba Strandberg scored for Maine on Friday. Strandberg's game-winning goal was the first of this season and third of the defender's career.
• The defense stepped up on the offensive side of the puck, as Alyson Matteau and Anna Zikova scored both of Maine's goals on Saturday. Matteau finished the weekend with a goal and seven blocks.
• Junior Carly Jackson had both starts in net, turning away a combined 45 shots in both contests.
 
About the Crimson
•  Last weekend Harvard swept a pair of ECAC Hockey games last weekend, taking a 2-0 win against RPI on Friday before taking a 4-0 win against Union on Saturday.
• In three non-conference games this season the Crimson are 1-2-0, defeating Holy Cross 7-3 for the lone victory. Both losses came in back-to-back overtime games at the University of Wisconsin, where Harvard lost 3-2 and 2-1.
• Harvard's offense has an evenly-spaced attack. Lexie Laing (3-6-9) and Kat Hughes (1-8-9) are tied for the team lead in points. Behind them on the leaderboard is Kristin Della Rovere, with four goals and eight points this year. Alongside them are Becca Gilmore with three goals and seven points in nine games and Dominique Petrie with three goals and four points in five games.
• Freshman Lindsay Reed has handled the goaltending responsibilities this season, starting in nine of 10 games for the Crimson. She's earned a 4-4-1 record, 1.42 GAA with a .958 save percentage and two shutouts.
• Reed earned the pair of shutouts in last weekend's ECAC matchups, earning the NCAA's Third Star of the Week for her work.
• Overall, Harvard holds a 4-5-1 overall record with wins against RPI, Union, Holy Cross and Dartmouth as well a tie against Princeton.
• The Crimson's scoring offense is putting up an average of 2.30 goals per game this year for sixth-best in the ECAC. The defense is the No. 1 in the conference and No. 5 in the country with a 1.57 goals against this year.
• Harvard sits in fifth in the ECAC standings, and received votes in last week's USCHO poll.
 
The Series with Harvard
• Friday's meeting between Maine and Harvard is the 10th all-time meeting between the two competitors, with Harvard holding the 9-0-0 record all-time.
• The last time the two teams met was on Nov. 29, 2003, where Harvard took a 6-0 win. The game's first star, and two goal scorer in the contest, was Angela Ruggiero; a Hockey Hall of Fame inductee in 2015.
• Harvard and Maine were previously conference opponents in ECAC Hockey from 1998-99 through 2002-03, when Maine was a founding team for Hockey East.
• Since the two teams played in 2003, Maine has won 163 games across 17 seasons.
• The squads first met on Jan. 2, 1999 at Harvard which ended in a 6-1 Crimson victory.
 
Rewriting Records
• Tereza Vanisova is tied for fifth place for career goals scored in program history with 45. Her 46th goal will tie her for fourth, currently held by Tristan Desmet '05 and 47 goals will give her sole possession of fourth place.
• Ahead of Vanisova on the all-time goals list is Raffi Wolf '03 with 55 goals for third all-time, Meagan Aarts '04 with 61 goals for second all-time, and Karen Droog '04 with 74 goals for the program lead in career tallies.
• Vanisova currently holds fifth place in career points with 85. Ahead of her is Brooke Stacey '18 with 87 points, Raffi Wolf '03 with 92 points, Vanessa Vani '09 with 99 points, and both Meagan Aarts '04 and Karen Droog '04 who are tied for the program lead with 115 points.
• Vanisova is also climbing up the leaderboard for career assists as well. She is currently tied with Brigitte LaFlamme '07 for third-most assists with 47. She trails Meagan Aarts '04 with 54 assists and program leader Vanessa Vani '09 with 63 career assists.
• Alyson Matteau is two points away from taking sole possession of second place for career scoring by a defenseman. Second at 56 points is currently held by Kelly Law '07, with the top scoring by a defenseman is held by Kelly Nelson '02 with 66 career points.
