BURLINGTON, VT-- The UMaine women's ice hockey team fell 3-2 on Saturday afternoon to Vermont, splitting the last Hockey East series of 2018.
How It Happened
1st period, 15:55 | Olivia Klingberg got the host Catamounts on the board, capitalizing on momentum from an expired Catamount power play late in the opening period. 1-0 Vermont.

Alyson Matteau responded with Maine's first goal of the night less than a minute later. She hopped on the rush and snapped in her second goal of the season by using the Catamount player as a screen to push her team back even at 1-1.
2nd period, 6:50 | The Catamount offense pressured the Black Bears early in the middle frame, as Saana Valkama finishing a drop pass from Kristina Shanahan to re-take the Vermont lead and make it 2-1 UVM.
2nd period, 7:23 | Maine again responded quickly to battle the game back to even. Anna Zikova jumped in to the play, coming in with a shot from the high slot that flipped in through a screen. Zikova scored her second goal in three games with the tally to tie it back up at 2-2.
2nd period, 12:29 | Vermont posted the ultimate game-winner in the trailing half of the second, with Maude Poulin-Labelle sending a wrist shot in for the 3-2 final.
Notes:
- Maine outshot Vermont 26-25, with 10 shots being peppered against the Catamounts in the third period.
- The Black Bears penalty kill was 5-for-5.
