Jackson Shines in Victory Over Harvard

CAMBRIDGE, Mass-- The UMaine Women's Ice Hockey team fought to a 2-1 victory against the Harvard Crimson on Friday night on the back of a stellar goaltending effort and a pair of gorgeous goals.

How It Happened

7:12, 2nd period | After a battle for every inch in the first period, Tereza Vanisova gave Maine the lead. She handled a pass from Alyson Matteau at the half boards before she cut into the slot and fired a blazing wrist shot. (Maine 1-0)

6:58, 3rd period | On a delayed penalty, Vendula Pribylova grabbed the puck from center ice and blew past defensive pressure for a breakaway. With space, she split on her edges, going inside out on Lindsay Reed to double the Black Bears lead. (Maine 2-0)

14:14, 3rd period | On the tail end of a power play, Harvard's Keely Moy pushed in a third-chance rebound, getting between the pipe and the edge of Carly Jackson's pad to put the Crimson on the scoreboard. (Harvard, 2-1)

Notes:

- Jackson turned away 40 of 41 shots en route to her sixth win this season. It's the first time a Maine goaltender stopped at least 40 pucks since Jackson did it against UConn on Jan. 26, 2018.
-This is the first time Maine has defeated Harvard since the teams began playing each other in 1999. The Crimson held a 9-0-0 record coming into the game.
-Vanisova extended her team goals lead to 14 with the opening tally on the night.
-The victory pushed Maine to 11-7-1, the second-best record for the first half of a season, only behind last year's 12-6-3 record before the new year.

Next: Maine heads into winter break and won't play again until Jan. 5 and 6, when they welcome in Boston University to wrap up the season series with the Hockey East foe.
