ORONO, Maine – The UMaine men's and women's indoor track and field team opened up the 2018-19 season on Saturday. With the women falling to UNH 94-83, and the men dropping UNH 99-89 at the New Balance Field House.

The women combined to win seven events on the day, while the men took six events on the day.

Ariel Clachar started the event by winning the long jump (5.61 meters) while Anna Schuman won the triple jump (11.25 meters). Brianna Ewing, a freshman, took the top time for the 60 meter hurdles with a 9.15 finals for five points.

Cassidy Hill took the 60 meter hurdles (7.82) before taking the 200 meter dash at 25.71 final time. Â Â Senior Hayley Lawrence took the 3000 meter run at 10:44.51. Maine's 4x400 relay took the top finish, as Lauren Maguson,
Brittany Torchia,
Cassidy Hill and Samantha Sudol combined for a 3:57.57 time.

For the men, William Green started the day by winning the pole vault (4.25 meters) and
Troy Davis took the high jump (1.98 meters).
Elijah White won the long jump (6.85 meters) as well as the triple jump (14.04 meters) on the day.

Senior
Kelby Mace took second place in both the 60 meter dash (7.08), while
Ethan Orach took the same place in the 800 meter run (2:00.06). Travis Nickerson took second in the 1000 meter run (2:38.27) while
Cooper Nelson took third (2:44.13) in the event.
Aaron Willingham took the 3000 meter run in 8:34.68, coming in almost thirty seconds ahead of the next competitor, Ryan Spelman of UNH who came in at 9:01.14. The Black Bears also took the 4x800 relay, as the team of Travis Nickerson, James Olivier,
Ethan Orach and
Colin Tardiff finished at 8:17.40.

Camden Cleathero won the men's heptathalon with 4416 total points after winning the 60 meter dash (7.14 seconds), long jump (6.14 meters), high jump (1.91 meters), and pole vault (3.28 meters).

Both the men's and women's teams will travel to New Hampshire next weekend, as Maine will compete against Dartmouth and New Hampshire in Hanover.
