Box Score BALTIMORE, Md. -- The University of Maine women's soccer team, which led 2-0 at UMBC, was unable to hold on to its lead on Sunday as the Retrievers rattled off three unanswered goals to hand the Black Bears a 3-2 loss in the season finale. Maine ends the season at 6-9-1 overall and 2-6-0 in America East play.
Saylor Clark led the offensive attack for Maine as the freshman was able to tally a goal and an assist on the afternoon. The Black Bears held a slight 8-7 overall edge in shots however, UMBC outshot Maine 6-3 in the second half.
Annalena Kriebisch ends the season 6-9-1 on the year after making six saves in net for the Black Bears.
Clark and the Black Bears began the scoring at the 41 minute mark. Maine's freshman duo of
Emma Donovan and Clark connected when Donovan streaked down the right side before centering a pass right in front of the net to Clark. Clark tapped the ball past UMBC keeper Jade Wilkins.
Clark again got in the scoring just five minutes later, as her assist led to
Priscilla Domingo's third goal of the season. Just under five minutes after Maine's first goal, Clark regained control of a loose ball and sent it deep into the UMBC zone. Domingo outsprinted the UMBC defender and lifted a rocket into the back of the Retriever net early in the second half.
UMBC was able to tally three unanswered goals late in the second half, beginning with Erin Stevenson's penalty kick tally at the 70-minute mark.
Just over 12 minutes later, Danielle Fuentes' goal followed to knot the score before Wren Aye found the back of the net with under five minutes to play. Aye's goal proved to be the game-winner as UMBC was able to tally its first league victory of the season.
