ORONO, Maine – Maine women's ice hockey will be hosting one of their longtime rivals, the University of New Hampshire (UNH), for a pair of matches this weekend, kicking off with a puck drop at 2 p.m. on Friday afternoon.
Last time the Wildcats met up with the Black Bears was in Durham, N.H. early on in the season (Oct. 2017). Scoring was opened up by freshman
Michelle Weis giving Maine an early 1-0 lead just minutes after puck drop with her first NCAA goal. Unfortunately, UNH retaliated with two goals of their own in the first period, and neither team could capitalize on another scoring opportunity in the remaining two periods. Sophomore Carlee Turner tied up the match followed by senior Julia Fedeski tucking in the game-winner on a power play, 2-1.

The Wildcats (13-10-6, 8-7-4 WHEA) enter into the matchup on a high note after sweeping Quinnipiac on the road last weekend. Throughout the weekend, UNH tallied six goals on Quinnipiac while freshman Ava Boutilier in net for the Wildcats, only gave up a total of three goals. By the end of 120 minutes on the ice, Boutilier had recorded 57 saves plus two victories.
Turner potted a pair of goals on Friday to help ensure the 4-2 win, accumulating eight goals on the season. Dishing out two helpers was senior Carlee Toews, while leading scorer for the Wildcats, sophomore Meghara McManus, tallied the second goal of the night and senior Amy Schlagel added a fourth for comfort in the final two minutes.
Despite dropping behind midway through the first period the next day, UNH recovered and came back to take a 2-1 win with goals scored by junior Devan Taylor for her 9
th and senior Kate Haslett for her 3
rd of the season.

The Black Bears (16-9-3, 10-6-2 WHEA) are coming off of a rough weekend down in Connecticut after dropping two matches to the University of Connecticut (UConn). Despite last week's scores, Maine holds onto their third place ranking in the WHEA, just two points above UNH and Northeastern, tied with 20.
Sophomore
Carly Jackson held off the Huskies in their first matchup, taking them into overtime with a tied, 1-1, game as she racked up a career-high 45 saves. Unfortunately, UConn registered a second goal before Maine to seize the 2-1 victory. The following day, Jackson grabbed another 22 saves to help hold her reign over the WHEA goaltenders in goals against average (1.90) and save percentage (.928).
Weis scored the lone goal of the week for the Black Bears, tying up their first match against UConn, 1-1, with just 1:05 remaining in regulation to help extend the game into overtime. The rookie now has nine goals and ten assists so far this season.
