Soccer Makes Trek to Hartford to Battle the Hawks

ORONO, Maine — The University of Maine soccer team will continue America East Conference play on Thursday when it travels to Hartford to take on the Hawks at Yousuf Al-Marzook Field. The game will be streamed live on ESPN3.

About the Black Bears
• UMaine opened up conference play on Sept. 24 with a 1-0 win over Stony Brook, with an Emilie Andersen cross finding Priscilla Domingo for the 50th-minute game-winning goal.
• The goal was the first point of Domingo's career while fellow sophomore Andersen notched her first collegiate point with the assist.
Annalena Kriebisch tied a season and career-high for the second-straight game and third time this year by making eight saves between the pipes for the Black Bears.
• UMaine traveled to Cornell on Sept. 16 and came up short, 1-0, in the final non-conference test of the season.
• Kriebisch (3-5-1) has earned three shutouts and sports a 1.180 goals against average, good for sixth in the conference, and a .828 save percentage, which is good for fourth in the league.
• Brace leads the Black Bears with two goals and one assist for five points while Nicole Bailey has four points on one goal and two assists and Ridley has one goal and one assist for three points.
Mikayla Morin and Olivia Bamford have also found the back of the net for UMaine this year with their first collegiate goals and Charlotte Messer earned her first career point with an assist against Marist.
 
About the Hawks
• Hartford is coming off a 2-1 win over UMass Lowell on Sunday in its first conference test of the year.
• Bridgette Alexander and Sierra Stone scored the goals for the Hawks in that win and sit first and second on the team in points, respectively; Alexander has 12 points on a team-high five goals and two assists while Stone – and Kaila Lozada - has 11 points on four goals and three assists.
• Maia Perez (5-5-1) has started all 10 games in goal for the Hawks, earning two shutouts while posting a 1.40 goals against average and a .737 save percentage.
• The Hawks, led by John Natale in his 14th season, were tabbed to win the league in the preseason coaches' poll.
 
The Series with Hartford
• Hartford has an all-time series lead of 19-7-6, including last year's 2-0 win in Orono.
• The squads first met in 1990, with Hartford winning that inaugural contest, 2-0.
• The Black Bears last topped the Hawks on Oct. 3, 2013 in a 1-0 win on the road.
 
A Win Would…
• Move the Black Bears to 4-5-1 overall and 2-0-0 in America East play.
• Bump UMaine's record n the all-time series to 8-19-6.
• Give head coach Scott Atherley a career record of 147-137-43 at the helm of the UMaine women's team.

• UMaine and Hartford have three opponents in common from the non-conference portion of their schedules: Holy Cross, Brown and LIU Brooklyn.

 About Head Coach Scott Atherley
• Now in his 25th season as a head coach in the NCAA, Scott Atherley is entering his 19th season as the Maine women's soccer program's head coach.
• Atherley has led the Black Bears to five-straight America East postseason tournaments and to 13 of the last 14 overall.
• In 1993, Atherley became head coach of the UMaine men's team and took on head coaching duties of the women's team in 1999, coaching both squads that year.
• Atherley was a four-year letter-winner at UMaine between 1984 and 1987, serving as captain during his final season.
 
First Time for Everything
Priscilla Domingo's goal against Stony Brook on Sept. 24 marked the first goal – and point – of her career, making her the fourth Black Bear this year to net their first career goal.
• Freshman Olivia Bamford netted the first of her career on Sept. 3 against UMass with her first minute tally while sophomore Nicole Bailey earned her first career helper on the play.
• Sophomore Kayla Brace saved her first career goal for a game-winner, as the sophomore found the net in the 84th minute of UMaine's 1-0 win over Holy Cross on Aug. 31.
• Against Brown, junior Mikayla Morin was able to head home the ball in the second half for her very first tally.
Kendra Ridley's assist on Sept. 7 against Bryant was the first of the senior captain's career – and her game-winning goal against Marist on Sept. 10 came as a result of the first career assist from Charlotte Messer.
Emilie Andersen assisted on Domingo's score against Stony Brook to earn her first career point as well.

Ironwomen
• Senior defender Amy Falkin and sophomore goalkeeper Annalena Kriebisch are the only Black Bears to have played every single minute this season.
• Each player has logged 839 minutes through the first nine games of the season.
Emilie Andersen, Kendra Ridley and Mikayla Morin have all played over 760 minutes.
• As a team, UMaine has 10 players that have logged at least 600 minutes.
 
Rising Ridley
Kendra Ridley has tallied three points this year on one goal and one assist, gaining those points in consecutive games for her first career point-streak.
• The assist, which came on Sept. 7 against Bryant, was the first one of her career.
• Both of Ridley's career goals have been game winners, with her maiden tally last year against UMass-Lowell giving the Black Bears a 1-0 win.
 
Canadian Connection
• Sophomore Kayla Brace's game-winning score against Holy Cross on Aug. 31 was assisted by her classmate and fellow Canadian, Nicole Bailey.
• For Brace, who hails from Lewis Lake, Nova Scotia, it was her first career goal and point.
• For the Nepean, Ontario native, Bailey, it marked her first career assist.
 
A Night of Firsts at Brown
• Junior Mikayla Morin scored the first goal of her career at Brown, heading the ball home in the 77th minute.
• The Aug. 25 match at Brown marked the first time in the now six-game series that the winning team did not earn a shutout.
• Maine held Brown without a shot on frame in the first half, marking the first time in nine games (Sept. 21, 2016) that Brown was held without a shot on goal in a full half.
 
First Tie in a Long Time
• Maine's 0-0 tie with LIU Brooklyn in the Aug. 20 season-opener marked the first time that the Black Bears have ever had a tie on opening day.
• It was also the program's first tie since a 1-1 affair with rival New Hampshire on Oct. 29, 2015.
• The most ties that Maine has ever had in a season is seven in 2008.
 
International Appeal
• The Black Bears have four different countries represented on the team roster in the United States, Canada, Norway and Germany.
• Maine has three players each that hail from Maine and Connecticut, and one each from New York, Georgia, Florida and New Hampshire.
 • There are three Canadian provinces represented with four players coming from Ontario, three from Nova Scotia and one from Quebec.
• There is a three-payer European contingent, with two players hailing from Norway and one from Germany.
 
Oh Captain, My Captain
Kendra Ridley will serve as the captain for the Black Bears this season, marking the third-straight year that the Ottawa, Ontario native will wear the armband.
