Five Black Bears Score in 5-3 Victory over Dartmouth

Maine outshot the Big Green by a 20-6 mark
HANOVER, N.H. – With goals from Samantha Wagg, Brianna Ricker, Brittany Smith, Madison Cummings, and Emily Hindle, the Maine Black Bears field hockey team defeated Dartmouth 5-3 at Chase AstroTurf Field on Sunday afternoon.
The Black Bears held significant advantages in shots (20-6) and penalty corners (10-2) on the day, but Dartmouth was offensively efficent when given chances to stay in the game. In the second half alone, Maine outshot Dartmouth by a 12-3 margin, but the Big Green scored twice, while the Black Bears converted three goals in the half.
Dartmouth goalkeeper Hailey Valerio made eight stops in between the pipes for the Big Green, while Emma Cochran was credited with one save on the day for the Black Bears.
MAINE GAME NOTES AND HIGHLIGHTS

- Maine improves to 16-6 all-time against the local rival, and extended the Black Bears' win-streak over the Big Green to eight.
- The Black Bears have now outshot its' opponents for a sixth-straight game, and now have outshot the opposition by a 158-49 mark this season.
- Through six games this season, Maine is averaging 4.14 goals per game to the opposition 1.57 goals per game.
- All five goals in the game featured assists, including two by Wagg, Crowley, and Riedl.
- With two assists in today's game, Libby Riedl now has 19 points in just six games this season.
- Emily Hindle has just three shots on the season, but two have found the back of the net.
- Dartmouth got on the board before the two-minute mark, when Katie Spanos scored her first of two goals on the day off of a rebound to gve Dartmouth an early lead.
- Maine quickly countered two minutes later when Libby Riedl stopped a pass from Emily Hindle on a penalty corner, and Samantha Wagg deposited the goal to tie the game.
- At the 15th minute mark, Casey Crowley stormed up towards midfield and accurately passed the ball to Brianna Ricker in open space, who shot the pass with the goalkeeper directly in front of her to give Maine its' first lead of the game.
- After halftime, Casey Crowley dangled past four Big Green defenders before putting a shot on net. Brittany Smith redirected the shot into the net for her first goal of the season.
- Directly following a Dartmouth goal, Maine converted a penalty corner in the 61st minute. Emily Hindle sent in the pass, which Libby Riedl settled for Samatha Wagg, whose shot was redirected in by Madison Cummings to give Maine a 4-2 advantage.
- The Big Green added their third goal of the contest in the 64th minute, but Maine responded a minute and 10 seconds later off of a penalty corner. Hindle sent the pass in which was stopped by a Maine player, which set up Wagg for a shot. Wagg's shot was redirected back to Hindle in front of net, as she netted her second goal of the season.
- The Black Bears return home on September 22 after three and half weeks on the road. Maine will take on Northeastern at 3 p.m. in the final non-conference game of the season.
