Orono, Maine – The University of Maine women's cross country team kicked off its 2017 season at home on Friday afternoon, falling to Army West Point by a score of 17-44. Junior
Haley Lawrence finished in fourth-place with a time of 19:02.1, a team best on the 5.12 kilometer course.
Junior Kaitlin Sautler crossed the finish line in Harold Alfond Sports Stadium with a time of 19:10.5, good enough for seventh place. In her first race as a Black Bear, freshman
Emma Jourdain finished just outside the top-10 with a time off 19:38.
Senior
Nora Hubbell started her final season as a Black Bear with a time 19.47.1, while
Hope Gardner and Cassandra wrapped up the top-20 with times of 20:13.9 and 20:14.6, respectively.
Maine returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 9 when they travel to the UMass to compete in the Minuteman Invitational. The women's race is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. in Amherst, Mass.
