STONY BROOK, New York - The Black Bears and Seawolves faced off in game three of their series on Sunday afternoon, as walks would once again prove costly for Maine as Stony Brook scored 12 runs on just eight hits. The Black Bears would outhit the Seawolves, but couldn't overcome the deficit, falling 12-6.

Maine's starter was Trevor DeLaite, who gets the loss, walked four batters in the first inning. His record falls to 2-3 on the season.

Maine got out to a quick start, as Tyler Schwanz singled to right field, scoring Colin Ridley from second base, to put Maine on top 1-0.

Stony Brook would take the lead in the bottom half, as three straight walks with the bases loaded would score Stony Brook's three runs. Stony Brook would add to the lead in the second, another two runs coming off bases-loaded walks, as well as two RBI singles, an RBI double, and a wild pitch, which would end up scoring seven total. Stony Brook would lead 10-1 after two innings.

Maine would slowly try to chip away at the lead; they would add a run in the fourth from a Caleb Kerbs single, scoring Hernan Sardinas, and three more in the fifth with a bases-clearing two-RBI triple for Tyler Schwanz, and an RBI single to center by Brandon Vicens. Black Bears cut the lead in half after five, 10-5. 

Stony Brook padded their lead by two more in the sixth to lead 12-5, and a Jeremy Pena bases loaded warning-track shot with the bases loaded scored Vicens in the eighth, but in the end the enormous Stony Brook lead was too much for Maine to overcome.

Connor Johnson saw the mound for 6.2 innings for Maine in relief, throwing 123 pitches, 71 of them strikes. Johnson allowed six hits, two earned runs, and three walks, while striking out three.

The Black Bears will return home for all but one game in the month of May; they begin by hosting Colby College at 5pm on Wednesday, before hosting UMBC for a weekend series.
