ORONO, Maine - The Black Bears faced off against the UMass Lowell River Hawks for a double header on Friday afternoon which saw two wins for the River Hawks, as Maine drops its first two conference matchups of the season.

In game one,
Justin Courtney got the start for Maine, he went 5.2 innings, allowing six hits, one walk, and striking out seven, while allowing four earned runs as Maine dropped the first matchup 4-3. UMass Lowell got off to a quick start, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first; they would hold a 2-0 lead over Maine for the first two innings.
Maine answered back in the top of the third inning as a
Tyler Schwanz RBI double scored
Danny Casals and
Hernen Sardinas, tying the game back up at 2-all. In the top of the sixth, Maine took the lead on a
Brandon Vicens sacrifice fly to left field, which allowed Schwanz to tag up and score to give Maine a 3-2 lead. However, UMass Lowell would score two more in the bottom of the sixth on a two-run home run, as they retook the lead 4-3, which would be the final score.
Justin Courtney gets his fifth decision of the year as his record is now 2-3;
Connor Johnson and
Eddie Emerson both came into the game in releif, pitching 1.2 and 0.2 innings respectively allowing no hits or runs.

In a seven-inning game two, the Black Bears struggled to get things going offensively as they were shut out and only managed three hits in the contest. Maine starter
Jonah Normandeau pitched all six innings for Maine, allowing five hits, three earned runs, three walks and struck out seven. His record after the loss now falls to 0-3.
UMass Lowell got it started once again in the bottom of the first, scoring a lone run on a balk. The River Hawks would hold that 1-0 lead until the bottom of the sixth, when a two-run shot gave them the final 3-0 lead.
