ORONO, Maine -- The University of Maine men's track and field team defeated Holy Cross, Saturday, by a score of 103 to 69.
Fourth-year Shane Corbett finished first in the weight throw with a throw of 15.73 meters, followed by first-year Isaiah Brooks who finished with a 15.52 meter throw. Third-year Alexander Wortman came in second in the men's pole vault with a vault of 4.25 meters. In the high jump, first-year Troy Davis finished in first place with a jump of 1.85 meters.
Maine continued their excellence in the field events with a one-two-three finish in the shot put. Led by second-year Thomas Scott Murray, who threw a winning 15.36 meters, followed by Brooks who threw a 15.26 meter throw for second, and fourth-year Jeremy Frantz's 14.60 meter throw was good enough for third.Â
Davis scored five more points in the triple jump by jumping 12.88 meters, the only Black Bear to place in the event. Second-year Andrew Smith scored five points in the long jump, jumping 5.99 meters, followed by first-year Erick Seekins, who jumped 5.94 meters.
Fourth-year Jacob Johns finished first in the 1 mile run with a time of 4:19.62, followed by fourth-year Levi Frye, who scored three points with a time of 4:21.49. Johns later scored five more points in the 1000 meter run with a time of 2:32.74, while Frye scored a point in the event by running a time of 2:36.74.
Benjamin Davis finished first in the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.07. Davis scored three points in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.03, being edged out by his teammate, third-year Mozai Nelson, who ran a time of 7.01.
In the 3000 meter run, fourth-year Jesse Orach ran a New Balance Field House record 8:21.24, followed by fourth-year Justin Tracy at 8:29.86. Maine's 4x400 meter relay team finished in first place with a 3:24.87, which featured fourth-year Tucker Corbett, first-year Jake Osborn, third-year Garrett Johnson and also first-year Cooper Nelson.
Maine's next meet will be at Boston University where some athletes will be competing in the Men's Valentines Invitational, while others will be competing at home, hosting UNH.
