Men’s Hockey Battles Against Merrimack, Ties 4-4

Matt Morris makes 41 saves and adds an assist on the night

Men's Hockey wrapped up their weekend series against the Merrimack College Warriors Saturday night at Lawler Rink in North Andover, Massachusetts.
 
Maine opened the scoring 7:16 into the period as Cedric Lacroix was able to beat Merrimack goaltender, Collin Delia, on the powerplay. Eric Schurhamer and Patrick Shea would both add assists on the play. Maine would stretch its lead to 2 as Blaine Byron registered his second goal in as many nights 15:04 into the period on assists from Brendan Robbins and Patrick Holway. Goaltender Matt Morris remained perfect in the frame stopping all 13 shots he faced.
 
Merrimack would find a way to claw back into the game, first with a Sami Tavernier powerplay marker 7:12 into the period. Brett Seney and Johnathan Kovacevic both picked up assists on the play. Two minutes later, Jace Hennig would pick up another powerplay marker for the Warriors, knotting the game at 2. The goal was assisted by Ludvig Larsson and Chris Leblanc. Maine, however, would answer back as Rob Michel tallied a powerplay marker of his own for his 8th goal of the year. Cam Brown and goaltender Matt Morris would both pick up assists on the play. Maine would hold onto the 3-2 lead throughout the remainder of the period and entered second intermission up 1 goal.
 
Merrimack would once again battle back and 7:34 into the period, Ludvig Larsson would find the back of the net on assists from Chris Leblanc and Jonathan Lashyn. Maine would not be denied, and 14 seconds later, Ryan Smith capitalized on an errant puck play by Merrimack goaltender Collin Delia, sliding home his fourth of the year. The see saw contest would continue and 2 minutes later Jace Hennig would notch his second of the game, and tying the game at 4 apiece. Both teams would exchange chances back and forth through the remainder of the period and overtime, but neither could breakthrough. Maine goaltender Matt Morris would make 41 stops in the tie while Merrimack goaltender Collin Delia would make 23 saves.
 
Maine now looks to end its regular season on a high note as they welcome the Northeastern Huskies to Alfond Arena next Friday and Saturday for First Responders' Night and Senior Night, respectively. Tickets are available by skating over to goblackbears.com or by calling (207) 581-BEAR.
