ORONO, Maine – The UMaine men and women's indoor track and field teams are set to open the 2017-18 season this Saturday, when the Black Bears travel to New Hampshire. The dual meet against the Wildcats is set to start at 11:00 a.m. at Paul Sweet Oval.
The men's team defeated New Hampshire 90-86 in last year's opening meet, winning 10 of the 17 events, while the Maine women's team narrowly fell to the Wildcats by a 94-87 margin.
Joseph Slattery finished first in the long jump (6.55m/21' 0.6") against UNH last season at New Balance Field House. Troy Davis took first in the triple jump (13.22m/43' 4.50").
Jacob Johns finished first in the one mile run (4:22.05) and the 1000 meter run (2:34.96).
Mozai Nelson took the top spot in the 60 meter dash (6.92).
Garrett Johnson won the 200-meter dash (22.6). The Black Bears also won the 4x400 Meter Relay featuring
Elijah Yeboah,
Tucker Corbett,
Isaac Yeboah,
Garrett Johnson (3:24.60).
For the women, Rachel Bergeron finished first in the weight throw (16.76m/55' 00") against UNH in the opening weekend.
Ariel Clachar finished first in the long jump (5.61m/18' 05") and
Ashley Donohoe took the top spot in the shot put (2.88m/42' 3.25").
Teal Jackson took first place in the 400 meter dash (1:00.13) and
Ariel Clachar won the 600 meter dash (7.91).
Lauren Magnuson also finished first in the 200 meter dash (26.27).
Both the men and women's teams return to New Hampshire next weekend, this time in Hanover to compete against both Dartmouth and UNH. Friday's multis events are scheduled to start at 5:00 p.m., while Saturday's competitions will start at noon.
