Black Bears Continue Hockey East Action at UNH and No. 3 Boston College

ORONO, Maine – Maine women's ice hockey will be taking on two different teams this weekend as they continue Hockey East action after defeating Boston University, 4-2, last weekend in their first conference matchup. The Black Bears will kick off the weekend at the University of New Hampshire (UNH) on Saturday afternoon for their Skating Strides game and then venture down to No.3 Boston College (BC) on Sunday with a 2 p.m. puck drop both days.
In their last meeting, Maine triumphed with a 3-2 win over Boston College in the 2016-17 season, with the game winner scored by sophomore Vendula Pribylova in the final minute of the match.

The Wildcats had a very busy week with two road games and one home, starting with a close 5-4 victory over the University of Vermont (UVM) on Friday, October 20 followed by a 6-1 blowout on Saturday on their home ice against Dartmouth. The UNH women's ice hockey team then dropped their first match of the season to No. 7 Northeastern on Wednesday evening to leave their overall record at 4-1-1 (2-1-1 HEA). UNH currently holds second place in the Hockey East conference.

Junior Devan Taylor netted the final goal for the overtime win on Friday night helping the Wildcats edge out UVM. That was her second goal that game. Sophomore Meghara McManus is coming off an eight-point outing, recording three goals and five assists between the two games last weekend. Senior Carly Toews also posted an impressive showing, notching two goals and three assists in the takedown against Dartmouth.

Freshman Ava Boutilier has started off her collegiate career on a high note, starting every game this season with a .929 save percentage and 156 saves.

Maine improved their overall record to 5-2-0 after last weekend's single game victory over Boston University, 4-2, for their first Hockey East conference win. Junior defender Alyson Matteau stepped up her game last weekend registering three points with two goals and one assist. She is currently tied for second in points this season competing with teammate Michelle Weis at five points. Weis also earned her fifth assist in the match against BU. Pribylova also helped out last week adding on a goal and an assist to help capture the win.

In net, sophomore Carly Jackson has started in 6-of-7 games this season recording a .919 save percentage while only allowing an average of 1.84 goals a game. She's already turned away 125 shots this year.

No. 3 Boston College women's hockey team held onto their winning season this past week improving their overall record to 4-0-1 (1-0-1 HEA) with wins over Quinnipiac on Tuesday, October 17 and Sunday at the University of Vermont. The University of Connecticut (UConn) played the Eagles into a 2-2 draw on Friday evening.

Freshman Daryl Watts was unstoppable this past week registering nine points between three goals and six assists. After this week's successes, the rookie jumped to the lead in points for her team, already accumulating 14 this season. A sophomore at BC, Caitrin Lonergan also displayed stellar skills throughout the past week, tallying two goals and five assists, just a point behind Watts this season in stats.

Starting goalie, senior Katie Burt returned in between the posts this year playing in all five matches registering a .929 save percentage. She's allowed an average of 1.94 goals to get past her each game.
