Box Score ORONO, Maine -- Maine field hockey defeated the Bryant Bulldogs 2-0 in a defensive battle, Friday afternoon at the UMaine field hockey complex. The Black Bears improve to 6-1 on the year, while Bryant falls to 0-7.
Casey Crowley and
Samantha Wagg each had goals in the game for Maine.
Emma Cochran started in goal for the Black Bears and Marissa Elizardo started for the Bulldogs.
Maine had 10 shots compared to Bryant's one in the first half, as the Bulldogs loaded the circle with defenders to stifle the Maine offense.Â
Casey Crowley broke through for the first Maine goal of the game off of a penalty corner inserted by
Ella Mosky and assisted by
Samantha Wagg along with
Riley Field, with two minutes remaining in the half to give Maine a 1-0 lead. The Black Bears had six penalty corners in the first half versus none for Bryant.
Emily Corbett replaced Cochran in goal for the Black Bears.
Maine received another penalty corner, 18 minutes into the second half.
Samantha Wagg took a shot from the top of the circle and powered it to the back of the goal giving Maine a inusrance goal as the Black Bears took a 2-0 lead.
Bryant was unable to score. This marks the second consecutive game that Maine has recorded a shut out.
Emma Cochran earned the win and is now 3-1 on the season.
The Black Bears return to action on Sunday at 11:00 a.m. as they host the #3 ranked North Carolina Tar Heels at the UMaine field hockey complex.
