DeLand, Florida -- The University of Maine Baseball team defeated LIU Brooklyn 3-2 Wednesday night. With the win the Black Bears pick up their fourth win of the season.

Maine is now 4-8 on the year, while LIU Brooklyn drops to 3-7 on the year.

Chris Murphy started on the hill for Maine and Anthony Rupp started for the Blackbirds.

The Black Bears struck first with a solo home run in the bottom of the first from Danny Casals his first as a Black Bear to give Maine a 1-0 lead.

Long Island took the lead in the bottom of the third off of a Tommy Jakubowski double to give the Blackbirds a 2-1 advantage.

Maine tied the game in the bottom of the fourth after a Kevin Stypulkowski double driving in Brett Chappell to bring the game to 2-2.

Charlie Butler came on in relief for the fifth inning. Butler appeared in four innings, not allowing a hit, or an earned run and not giving up a walk. He also struck out four.

In the bottom of the eighth, Brenden Geary sacrificed bunt with Jeremy Pena on first and after a throwing error the Black Bears scored the go ahead run in the inning to take a 3-2 lead.

Logan Fullmer came on in the ninth and shut down the Blackbirds with three strikeouts for his third save of the season.

Maine returns to action March 11 as they take on Stetson in a three game series.
