The Black Bears held off a late Holy Cross rally to claim a 55-53 victory in Maine's final game at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor in 2016.
Ryan Bernstein and
Ilker Er lead Maine with 12 points each, all scored from behind the arc. The Black Bears dominated the glass, finishing with a 41-23 rebounding margin and 10 offensive rebounds. Ball movement was key for Maine as the Black Bears racked up 17 assists on 18 buckets.
Bernstein had the hot hand early, knocking down his first 4 attempts from downtown, and finished as Maine's leading rebounder with 7 while adding a pair of assists.
Marko Pirovic distributed for the offense, recording 6 assists to go along with 5 points, while locking down on defense with 3 steals and pulling down 6 rebounds.
Danny Evans made his presence known, tallying 5 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists in 15 minutes of action.
Holy Cross was carried by Malachi Alexander, who finished with 16 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 steals. Robert Champion was the leading rebounder for the Crusaders with 8 to go along with 13 points and 2 steals.
The Black Bears head to Dartmouth to take on the Big Green on Saturday, December 10th before returning to Maine to host Quinnipiac in Portland at Cross Insurance Arena.
