Box Score BOSTON, Massachusetts – Maine men's basketball fell to Boston University 102-78 on Saturday afternoon at Case Gym in the Steve Wright Classic.
Maine falls to 1-2 on the season while BU improves to 2-1 overall.
Andrew Fleming was the high point man with 17 points in the game, shooting 7-for-12 from the field. He also was one rebound away from notching his first career double-double, he finished the game with four offensive and five defensive rebounds, for a total of nine.
Wes Myers (12 points),
Marko Pirovic (12 points) and
Dennis Ashley (10 points) were the other Black Bear scorers with double digits.
Boston University had five double digit scorers, Justin Alston scored a team high 16 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the field. BU shot 54.5 percent from the field and held the Black Bears to 40.8 percent.
The Terriers forced 21 points off of 14 Maine turnovers.
The first half featured five lead changes and the Black Bears led by as many as six points midway through the first.
BU quickly went on a 7-0 run to regain the lead, 24-21 with 7:15 remaining in the first. Maine regained the lead after an
Austin Howard jumper, giving the Black Bears a 25-24 advantage.
The Terriers closed out the half going on a 12-3 run, sparked by ten points scored by Tyler Scanlon as BU carried a 43-30 lead into half.
After a Maine basket by
Vincent Eze to open the second half, BU rattled off three layups in a row to increase their margin 49-32 with 18:43 remaining.
The Terriers then scored three consecutive three pointers by Eric Fanning and Kyle Foreman to increase their lead, 61-37.
BU held their largest lead of the game after a Will Goff three, gave them an 89-58 advantage, with 6:00 minutes remaining in the game.
The Terriers held off Maine as they cut the margin to 24, after a layup by
Danny Evans in the final seconds, giving BU a 102-78 victory.
Maine returns to action in day two of the Steve Wright Classic as they take on Northeastern at 2:00 p.m.
