Evans' Tying Goal Not Enough as Soccer Loses 2-1 at Binghamton

The Black Bears couldn't capitalize on the second half goal.

Box Score BINGHAMTON, New York - The Black Bears lost their third America East conference game in a row despite second half heroics by Kate Evans, as they traveled to Binghamton who took the contest 2-1 Sunday afternoon.

The scoring began for the Bearcats 37:39 into the first half as Rachel Parsons took a corner kick from Michele Gavin and knocked it in with a header, giving Binghamton a 1-0 lead. Binghamton outshot Maine in the half 8-4, although Binghamton's attack was thwarted in the first with 5 offsides called against them.

The second half began with Binghamton leading until the 77th minute, when Kate Evans took a feed from Theresa Gosch and chipped one over the charging Binghamton goalkeeper Katie Hatziyianis to tie the game at 1 all.

The game would remain in a stalemate until the end of the 79th minute as Michele Gavin curled her corner kick as it bent over Samantha Cobotic and gave Binghamton the final 2-1 lead. Cobotic saved 3 of the 5 shots she faced, while Hatziyianis for Binghamton 4 of the 5 shots she faced.

Maine will try and bounce back in conference play Thursday at Stony Brook at 7pm.
